Professional Opossum Trapping
Opossums are generally docile animals, but when they take up residence under your deck, in your crawlspace, or in your attic, professional removal is the safest approach. Rapid Wildlife Removal uses humane live-cage traps to capture and relocate opossums, followed by exclusion work to prevent their return.
Where We Trap Opossums
- Under decks and porches — the most common opossum nesting location in suburban homes
- Crawlspaces — opossums enter through damaged foundation vents or gaps in skirting
- Attics — less common than raccoons or squirrels, but opossums occasionally access attics through soffit damage
- Sheds and outbuildings — any dark, sheltered space is attractive to opossums
- Yards — when opossums are causing ongoing issues with garbage, pet food, or gardens
After Trapping — Exclusion
Trapping solves the immediate problem, but without exclusion work, another opossum will eventually find the same entry point. We seal crawlspace vents, install deck screening, and close any gaps that allowed access. For recurring problems in areas that can't be fully sealed, we offer ongoing monitoring and trapping services.
Opossum Safety
While opossums rarely carry rabies due to their low body temperature, they can bite when cornered and may carry fleas, ticks, and other parasites. They're also known for "playing dead" when threatened — an involuntary response that can last minutes to hours. Never assume a motionless opossum is dead. If you find an opossum on your property that appears sick or injured, call us rather than approaching it.
