Apex's Growing Wildlife Challenge
Apex has experienced explosive growth, with new subdivisions replacing farmland and forest. This pushes wildlife directly into residential areas. Neighborhoods like Bella Casa, Salem Village, Sweetwater, and Scotts Mill are particularly vulnerable.
Common Wildlife Problems in Apex
- Squirrels in attics — extremely common due to mix of new construction and mature trees
- Raccoons — frequently found in attics, crawlspaces, and under decks
- Copperheads and rat snakes — significant activity in western Apex on wooded lots
- Coyotes — increasingly spotted in outer Apex neighborhoods
- Bats — roosting in gable vents and under ridge caps
